A posture scanner and an endpoint detection and response system answer different questions. A posture report describes collected settings at a particular time. EDR helps a team detect, investigate and respond to suspicious activity. Choose coverage based on the question you need answered.
Posture: are expected controls in place?
EndpointRadar helps review Windows antivirus, firewall, patching, services, listening ports and installed software. Run the local scanner and inspect the report for a baseline review, a client handover or verification of an approved configuration change. Record collection failures alongside the findings.
EDR: what activity needs investigation?
Microsoft describes Defender for Endpoint EDR in terms of near-real-time detections, related alerts and response actions. Those capabilities need a functioning collection and investigation workflow. A periodic configuration report should not be presented as equivalent coverage.
Match the tool to the question
- Was the firewall enabled during our review? Use dated posture evidence and the expected policy.
- What happened after a suspicious process ran? Use security telemetry and an incident investigation process.
- Did the configuration change take effect? Collect a new report and compare the affected check.
- Can we isolate a compromised device? Confirm the response capability and permissions in the deployed security platform.
Where EndpointRadar fits
The free workspace reviews imported reports in the current browser tab. It does not continuously observe the machine. The managed beta adds device review workflows, but automatic Windows task startup remains unresolved on the tested device. Scheduled reporting must be verified on each device before relying on it.
- Confirm which devices are reporting and the date of their latest evidence.
- Separate failed checks from passing results.
- Assign an owner to investigate findings and verify changes.
- Keep antivirus and incident-response arrangements in place alongside posture reviews.
A green posture report is not proof that a device is uncompromised. Record both the observed state and the gaps in coverage.
